DALLAS (February 6, 2008) - The first of 832 modular units have begun to arrive on site at Ft. Carson, Colorado. Warrior Group, the nation's largest minority woman-owned provider of modular buildings, was awarded the Ft. Carson project for Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel Housing (UEPH) by Hensel-Phelps Construction Company. The company's 4-story permanent structure involves a 4-building complex featuring unprecedented modular design and an advantage only modular can offer, an abbreviated schedule from construction start to occupancy.
Warrior Group is one of the leaders in the modular construction industry that serves governmental agencies, as well as the corporate sector. The company manages the development of large permanent modular building projects from initial design assistance to delivery and installation of the permanent structure. These buildings adhere to Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection guidelines and are LEED certifiable.
After substantially completing a similar project at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX in record time, Warrior Group immediately went to work on the Ft. Carson project. Like Ft. Bliss, the Ft. Carson UEPH project is a multi-story and multiple building complex structure, making both construction projects exemplary models of the value of permanent modular multilevel facilities. These projects will serve as prototypes for similar Army facilities and university student lifestyle facilities or dormitories throughout the United States.
Hensel-Phelps Construction Co., the general contractor to the US Army, is responsible for design, manufacture and installation of approximately 500,000 square feet of barracks and related facilities to accommodate existing and relocating soldiers to Ft. Carson as the US Army executes on the Base Realignment and Closing (BRAC) 2005, re-positioning and Army transformation initiatives.
"The frantic pace of work at Ft. Carson has some contractors concerned whether they'll be able to get enough skilled workers in Colorado Springs, but with Warrior Group we don't worry about that because their structures are built offsite in a controlled environment and they provide professional installation services onsite," said Paul O'Donnell, Operations Manager at Hensel-Phelps Construction Co. "Warrior Group is also our partner at Ft. Bliss, so we know that we can fully rely on them to design assist, manufacture and install all of the barracks space at the highest quality levels in the most efficient and effective manner to keep the Ft. Carson project on time and on budget," he said.
Warrior Group is partnering with All American Homes who will be manufacturing all 832 units for the project and will do so out of two facilities. They will build 75% of the units in Dyersville, Iowa and 25% in Milliken, Colorado. Production started in early November 2007. Hayes Trucking will serve as crane and setting contractor and will start setting boxes in early February 2008.
Warrior Group is scheduled to turn the four (4), four-story buildings over to the customer for occupancy in November 2008.
According to Gail Warrior-Lawrence, President of Warrior Group, having a proven track record has earned the company a solid reputation as dependable turnkey provider, thus making it an attractive partner for other major military construction projects across the country. "Our modular construction methods enable us to exceed client expectations with high-quality housing solutions that offer greater speed of completion and improved durability without the major disruptions that often plague on-site construction."
"Permanent modular construction is well suited to the urgent and often specialized nature of the military's housing needs," said Warrior-Lawrence. "Our successful work on the barracks at Ft. Carson will serve to showcase our modular construction capabilities as we pursue additional military and non-military projects around the country. Modular construction has evolved. There is a point where modular transcends. Then it's art."
