The Founders worked to create the Texas Women Ventures Fund as a professionally managed venture fund with many women investors and advisors. They networked with women investors to create a new fund with a unique mission. |

WHITNEY JOHNS MARTIN
Co-founder and Managing Member |
|
Whitney is co-founder of the Texas Women Ventures Fund and serves as the managing member of the fund's general partner Capital Across America Texas, LLC. She is a Charter Investor in the fund and she is a member of the Investment Committee.
Whitney has done business with woman entrepreneurs since the time she started her Merger and Acquisition advisory business in 1984. She has over ten years in fund management and has direct experience with providing capital to women-led companies. In 1998, she created the first Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) to focus on women-led companies. That fund and its co-investor partners invested over $45 million in women-led companies.
She has served on numerous private company boards in her career. In addition, Whitney was a three-time chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Nashville branch; a federal appointee to the National Women's Business Council; past national President of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO); and past member of the board for the National Foundation for Women Business Owners (now called the Center for Women's Business Research). She also served on both Wyndham Hotel's and Club Corp's Women's Advisory Boards. |

Whitney received the SBA's 1998 Southeastern Advocate of the Year award; received a Presidential appointment as a delegate to the last White House Conference on Small Business and she testified before the U.S. Senate on several occasions on the topic of access to capital for women.
Whitney is a resident of Las Colinas, Texas. She received a BS in Business Administration with highest honors from the University of Tennessee and graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee's College of Law. |

VALERIE FREEMAN

Valerie is co-founder of the Texas Women Ventures Fund. She is also a Charter Investor in the fund and she is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee.
Valerie Freeman, is the founder and CEO of Imprimis Group, a collection of staffing, search and outsourcing companies which include Bravo Technical Resources, Art Squad, M Squad, Mature Personnel and Third Party Pay. Freeman has a long and impressive career as an entrepreneur and as an involved community leader. She founded Imprimis Group in 1982 and today it is one of the largest independently owned staffing companies in Texas.
Valerie's past entrepreneurial ventures include serving as a founding member and Director of Resource Bank and Texas Capital Bank. Currently, she is a founder and Director of Anserteam, LLC.
Valerie is the 2004 recipient of the Women Business Enterprise of the Year Award from the Women's Business Council of the Southwest for outstanding performance in using innovative approaches to overcome obstacles in growing a business. She is also the 2003 recipient of the prestigious Athena Award for professional excellence and community service. Past accolades include “National Women Business Owner of the Year” presented by NAWBO and “Entrepreneur of the Year” presented by D/FW Ernst & Young. |

Valerie is a founder and past president of the DFW Chapter of NAWBO; founder and past chairperson of the Executive Women's Roundtable. She is a member of the Committee of 200, International Women's Forum and Leadership Texas Alumni Association.
Valerie is a resident of Farmer's Branch, Texas, She is a Distinguished Alum of the University of Houston where she holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education. |

CAROL NICHOLS

Carol is a co-founder of the Texas Women Ventures Fund. She is also a Charter Investor in the fund.
Carol, a former executive with Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase, has over 26 years of experience advising and connecting growing companies to capital.
Carol has been a leader in capital access initiatives for business owners and in creating organizations for business women. Carol is a Co-Founder of the NAWBO Dallas micro-loan program, “Capital Concepts, Inc.” and the Executive Women’s Partnership in Houston. She serves on the Advisory Council of Springboard Enterprises, a national initiative to connect women entrepreneurs to venture capital and on the Advisory Board for the Center for Women's Business Research in Washington D.C. She has served as an Advisory Director of a private equity fund which invests in minority and women-owned businesses and an Advisor to the Fort Worth Women’s Business Assistance Center. She is also a member of Golden Seeds, an angel investor network.
Carol is a frequent speaker or panelist on the topic of growth capital for emerging businesses.

CYNTHIA PHARR LEE

Cynthia is co-founder of Texas Women Ventures Fund. She is also a Charter Investor in the fund and she is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee.
Cynthia is currently on the Board of Southwest Venture Forum, has served as a judge for the "Entrepreneur of the Year," and also periodically judges university business plan competitions. Her entrepreneurial experience includes having grown and sold two firms - a PR firm sold to a public company and a technology firm sold to private investors.
Cynthia is president of C. Pharr & Company, a business-oriented communications consultancy. Prior to 1995, she led the growth of three of Dallas' largest PR firms.
Within the PR industry, Cynthia's credits include election by her peers as national Chairman of the prestigious Counselors Academy of the Public Relations Society of America. Accredited in public relations, she was inducted into the 300-member College of Fellows of the Public Relations Society of America in 1995. She has also received a number of awards, including Texas STAR award (1989) as the outstanding PR professional in Texas and the Teich Community Service Award - Dallas Chapter of PRSA for her exemplary work in community leadership.
Currently, Cynthia serves CEC Entertainment (NYSE) as a member of its Board of Directors, its Executive and Audit Committees. A former president of Executive Women of Dallas, her numerous civic boards include National Association of Corporate Directors and the SMU Cox School of Business Advisory Board. |
